6:14  -The Beauty Bug sees London, The Beauty Bug sees France  -The Beauty Bug sees Piper Perabo proving that she has just as much of a boyish, curve-less body as Kelly Ripa in her sheer Theyskens’ Theory dress. Worst dressed nominee.

6:23 – The camera pans to Amanda Peet while Giuliana is interviewing Adam Levine, and The Beauty Bug immediately recognizes her dress – it’s her grandmother’s curtains.  No, she’s a 70′s version of Little Bo Beep. Worst dressed list.

6:29 -The E! camera captures Paula Patton on the carpet, and her night of insincere smiles and affected-ness begins. Help us.

6:30 – Jessica Chastain’s mini pompadour is wrong and ages her. Who does she think she is – Bruno Mars?

6:30 – BEAUTY SHOUT-OUT – Nicole Richie gives props to Suave Professionals.

6:35 – Giuliana interviews Sarah Michelle Gellar. Her dress looks like something The Beauty Bug tie-dyed at summer camp, or a spin-art creation meant for the refrigeration, and ONLY the refrigerator. She tells Giuliana that her 2 year old daughter picked it out. Instant worst dressed candidate.

6:44 – Frido Pinto drowns in her over-sized dress as Ryan interviews her. Worst dressed nominee.

6:48 – BEAUTY SHOUT-OUT – Julie Bowen tell Ryan that her day starts with her Jergens Moisturizer.

6:50 – Ryan interviews Lisbeth Salander Rooney Mara. Yawn. (Check out Bobbie Thomas‘ photo -  to the right she shows us what the Rooney’s dress would have looked like if it was blue.)

6:54 – Oh, it’s just the Deschanel’s sisters (Zooey and Emily) and Zoey’s sideburns. Her delightful tuxedo nails can’t even make up for her Ashanti-like hair patches.

6:58 – Mary J Bleige and her pit-bulge arrive. Ga-ross.

7:17 -All bow to the red-lipped wicked queen. Don’t make eye-contact,  don’t question her people of Bosnia, and don’t  even think for one second that you matter.  The Beauty Bug shudders at the thought of having to hang out with her. Oh,  and… earth to Lancome.  For the love of Genefique, please send Brat Pitt some eye cream!

7:31 -Tina Fey hits the carpet. Poor girl still can’t wear a dress.

7:38 – Diana Agron and her “year of the swan” dress are talking to Ryan. Dreadful.

7:39 – Four words. Lea Michele, vocal fry. It’s so hot right now…except when it’s Lea Michele.

7:41 – Madonna doesn’t disappoint – she leads with her fake accent. She and Johnny Depp are soul mates.

TODAY – This just in – Lea Michele is still on the red carpet, posing.  Her poor publicist.

DIANA AGRON

Makeup artist Monica Blunder was inspired by the spring 2012 fashion shows where the makeup was fresh but still very glamorous.  Since Dianna’s red Giles dress was so “va va voom,” Monika focused on the lips to be the stand out feature.

• Monika kept Julianna’s skin simple and fresh with a bit of L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup in Light Ivory to give skin a light glow.
• Since the focus was kept on her lips, only a small amount of L’Oréal Paris Magic Smooth Soufflé Blush in Celestial (Pink) was applied to the apples of cheeks.
• The bold red lip stole the show; Monika applied L’Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Bold Bordeaux for lasting shine and pigment.
• The eyes were highlighted with a hint of L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte with Vaseline applied over it to create added shine.
• The L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Black was lightly applied around the rim of the eye and Monika applied several coats of L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara in Black to complete the look.

JULIE BOWEN

Makeup artist Heather Currie was inspired by Julie’s classic Reem Acra, peachy-champagne dress.  To match her Grace Kelly-esque hair, Heather created an old Hollywood glam makeup moment with a neutral palette for the face and lips (with hints of pink) and defined, smoky eyes.

Step by Step How-To:

• To create the base look, Heather started with an Armani foundation.
• Next, she applied L’Oréal Paris Magic Smooth Soufflé Blush in Celestial to the apples of Julie’s cheeks to create a radiant, natural and youthful glow.
• On the eyes, Heather created a winged tip eye with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Black.
• She also used L’Oréal Paris Extra-Intense Carbon Black Eyeliner to precisely define the rest of the eyes.
• Heather used a sheer amount of L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Continues Cocoa in the creases of Julie’s eyes.
• She then blended L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte and Eternal Sunshine to create a sultry, smoky eye effect.
• An extra dab of L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte was used under the eyebrow line to add additional definition and depth.
• Lips were kept natural with a hint of color using L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Le Gloss in Golden Splash.

FREIDA PINTO 

Makeup artist Leslie Lopez loved Freida’s gorgeous eyes and  really wanted to channel a young Sophia Lore, making Freida’s eyes the focal point of her look.

Step by Step How-To:

• Leslie gave Freida a flawless face by starting with L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Foundation in W6 (Sun Beige).
• She created a sun-kissed look on the cheeks with L’Oréal Paris Magic Smooth Soufflé Blush in Cherubic.
• For Freida’s eyelids, she used L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Bronzed Taupe, and Iced Latte on the brow bone for an extra pop of shimmer.
• Leslie gave the look an extra layer of smokiness with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in black before curling her lashes and applying a few coats of L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara in Black.
• To keep Freida’s eyes the focus, she kept her lips on the natural side with L’Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Lingering Mocha, a soft mauve.

JULIANNA MARGUILIES

For Julianna’s makeup, artist Kris  Buckle was inspired by Julianna’s deep mauve, metallic Naeem Khan dress.  He wanted to create something that would complement its texture and liquid-like flow and accentuate her olive skin.

Step by Step How-To:

• To keep Julianna’s complexion looking flawless he used L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup in Soft Ivory.
• For her cheeks he applied L’Oréal Paris Magic Smooth Soufflé Blush in Plume.
• The eyes really took center stage with a soft smoky eye that was created with watercolor-like shades using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Bronzed Taupe, Eternal Sunshine and Iced Latte.
• To tie the look together Kris used a hint L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte on Julianna’s upper cheeks to tie in the eyes and glowing tones of her skin.
• Lips were left unlined and highlighted natural tones (with a hint of mauve) using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Forever Frappe.

SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR

Makeup artist Jake Bailey was inspired by Sarah’s Monique L’huillier blue and white gown (which was chosen by Sarah’s two year old daughter).  For the night, Jake wanted to make the eyes the main focus to complement the bold color of the dress.

Step-by-Step:

• To start, Jake used L’Oréal Paris Extra-Intense Carbon Black Eyeliner to rim and define the top and bottom lash lines.
•  To accentuate Sarah Michelle’s lashes he coated them with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara in Blackest Black.
• He perfected her skin by buffing a dime size dollop L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup in Caramel Beige over Sarah Michelle’s entire face and finished it with a dusting of Guerlain Mineral Powder in Les Violettes.
• Jake used a powder bronzer from Nars in Laguna to warm her complexion and brightened her cheeks with a swirl Benefit’s Coralista, a shimmery coral blush.
• He lined Sarah Michelle’s lips and filled them in with Urban Decay’s a nude liner, Wallflower.
• Jake finished the look by applying L’Oréal Paris Infallible 8hr plumping gloss in plumping pink to add shine and dimension.
• For her body he mixed equal parts AHAVA mineral body lotion and M.A.C. strobe cream to add a healthy sheen to her shoulders arms and decolletage.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS

CHANEL celebrity makeup artist, Angela Levin, said she was inspired by a “gorgeous Golden Globe winner.”

• Step-by-Step:
• Angela began by applying CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in Beige-Pastel on the face and eye lids, as a base.
• On the eyes, she used the grey shadow shades from the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Smoky Eyes to create a light smoky effect on the upper lid, then adding CHANEL Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Black Shimmer to the top lash.
• Angela then defined the brows with CHANEL Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Blond Clair and added two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Mascara in Noir on the top and bottom lashes.
• On Michelle’s cheeks she applied CHANEL Powder Blush in Rose Ecrin that gave a perfect flush.
•  She completed the look with CHANEL Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Perle.

JESSICAL BIEL

CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua took inspiration from Jessica’s coloring and her white gown. “I wanted to keep it simple and bright in the corals and neutral tones,” said Bua.

Step-by-Step:

• Jessica’s look began with CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in Beige-Sable. It was then set with CHANEL Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Natural.
• CHANEL Powder Blush in In Love was applied to the cheeks for a healthy glow.
• To make her eyes pop, Bua defined them with the deep warm brown and taupe colors from the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Prelude, and applied the shimmery gold/champagne shades as highlights on the lid.
• CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir was applied to the top lashes and CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Brun, on lower lashes for a more natural effect.
• The look was finished with CHANEL Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in Paradis for a fresh, healthy look.

EMMA STONE

CHANEL Celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin created an impactful makeup look highlighted by a dramatic eye shape using shades of pewter and gunmetal to complement the metallic details on Emma’s stunning Lanvin dress.

Products used included REVLON PhotoReady Perfecting Primer, REVLON PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup in Nude, CHANEL Powder Blush in Orchid Rose,  CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Noir, REVLON ColorStay 16H Eyeshadow Quad in Precocious, CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir and REVLON ColorBurst Lip Butter in Lollipop.

Clearly a misfit herself, Lindsay Lohan looks like she belongs in the group The Misfits from the cartoon, Jem. Her attempt to contour her cheek bones, resulted in an unblended mess. Maybe it was an early Halloween costume?

8:35PM – Why did Anne Hathaway change? Anyone? Anyone?

8:45PM – The room fills with shrieks as the the former best supporting actors take the stage.  Tilda Swinton, who is channeling David Bowie more than ever, looks like she’s an embalmed mummy wearing a drape. Angelica Houston has fully become her former character, Morticia Adams. The Beauty Bug has no words for Whoppi Goldberg.  And finally, Goldie Hawn you need more dress up top. You should know better.

8:55PM -Tina Fey is stunning in a silver gown as she presents with Steve Martin. Her skin and makeup look beautiful.

9:00PM – MILK wins for original screen play and The Beauty Bug Fiance comments that the LL Cool J’s “Milky Cereal” should play every time MILK wins. The Beauty Bug rolls Her eyes.

9:05PM – The Beauty Bug isn’t one for sequins, but loves Jennifer Anniston’s shiny number.

9:15PM – Sarah Jessica Parker presents with Danie Craig in her “barely mint” dress that doesn’t  fit up top, accented with a very distracting belt.

9:25PM -  Amanda Seyfriend and her bow take the stage. There’s two bows too many on the red carpet  – Amanda and Jessica Biel. Clearly, the same person who designed their dresses also designed Aretha Franklin’s Innuaguration Hat.

9:31PM  – Somewhere Joaquin Phoenix is really really pissed, and David Letterman is laughing uncontrollably.

9:53 PM – The Broadway medley with Beyonce is impressive, but She can’t lip sync to save her life.  The Beauty Bug is embarassed for her.

10:00PM – Quite amused by Jimmy Fallon’s tweet  - “Best Tony’s ever.”

10:03PM – The camera pans to Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Alan Arkin announces his nomination. He’s wearing a scull cap and looks as though he’s about ready to rob a bank. The Beauty Buy Fiance comments, and quite seriously may The Beauty Bug add, “I wonder if he just got hair plugs.” On a recent appearance on the TODAY Show, he describes his hair as “the bed-head of the Gods.”

10:45PM - Anne Hathaway has changed back into her red carpet dress.

10:53PM – The Beauty Bug is completely distracted and repulsed by Alicia Keys’ wig. Also, anyone else notice something different about her? Perhaps a new nose?

11:10PM – Queen Latifah sings her tribute song, and becomes the third person to dawn a bow. Three bows too many…

11:18PM – The show is coming to an end soon, and The Beauty Bug is worried that Heidi Klum won’t be making an appearance so, She’ll take this time to comment on her  frightening comb-over. It rivals Donald Trump’s.

11:29PM - Loving Halle Berry’s eye shadow.

11:30PM - Almost as frightened by Sophia Loren as I am by Heidi’s comb-over.

11:40PM - Adrien Brody looks like he’s a quarter the way to cramping Joaquin Phoenix’s style.

11:50PM – An additional comment to fit in -  Miley Cyrus looked like she belonged on a float in a Disney Parade. That dress was a shame.

Vampire or pirate, take your pick. Yes, vampires are in right now, but not on the red carpet. Vampira Marisa, go back to Transylvania.

The Beauty  Bug and Her co-workers were reviewing the red carpet looks at work and we came to Eva. The Beauty Bug interrupted the all the gushes and compliments,. Yes, Eva looked pretty, but the dress? That bustle? “You guys really like that bustle in the front,” The Beauty Bug asked? “You mean she’s not holding a jacket,” one coworker asked?  Another chimed in saying she too thought it was a jacket in her arms. “NO”, The Beauty Bug answered emphatically.  Enough said. Thumbs down for the dress, thumbs up for Eva and her makeup.

Anne wins the Golden Globe for most statuesque, pale actress.  Just look at her. There’s no telling if this is her, or her wax figure.  (FINALLY, The Beauty Bug discovers someone who is paler than Her.)

Why Drew? Why? And while The Beauty Bug is asking why, why Stacy London did you pick her as one of your best dressed when you appeared on the TODAY Show today? That nest on top of Drew’s head could have hid both of Kate Winslet’s Golden Globes, and no one would have known where they disappeared to.  As for the dress? It’s Beetle Juice meets Hocus Pocus meets Scrooged.

Like Marisa, Renee Morticia also went for the Gothic-Victorian inspired looked and failed miserably.  A sheer disaster if you ask The Beauty Bug.

While watching the red carpet, The Beauty Bug paused it for a better look at Debra’s hair.  It was distracting. No, she couldn’t be…  she wasn’t…. she wouldn’t be…wearing a scrunchie.?1? But it sure looked like she was. The Beauty Bug soon forgot about Debra’s hair when at about 2 hours into the show, the camera panned to her and her eye makeup and mascara  were running. Time to get a new makeup artist.

The wrinkles, the color and the fit are all wrong. At least it draws the attention away from her hair.

The Beauty Bug pegged Eva as best dressed but, Her slightly older thirty-something co-workers disagreed, as they reminisced that it was very similar to their prom dresses. Prom dress or not, Eva had grace, simplicity and elegance on the red carpet.

If all of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” are as stuffed and packed into their dresses as she is, they will most likely not be able to put their hands up…

Tina – before you tell The Beauty Bug to suck it(because you’re obviously reading this) -  know that She is a huge fan of all your work. That being said, She’s seen you look a ton better. The messy hair, the minimal makeup and the unflattering dress were a true disappointment.

There’s not much The Beauty Bug can say about Mrs. Lopez that hasn’t already been said. Perez pointed out the bulge, and news outlet after news outlet have reminded Jennifer that it’s not the 2000 Grammy’s anymore.

The Beauty Bug never thought She’d actually say this …but Her pick is Posh. Perhaps it’s the angle of the photo or the fit – but it just seems to hang on Haylie.

6:22PM: Heidi Klum and Seal are the first to stop and chat with Ryan on the carpet. Though Heidi admits sh he’s not wearing a bra, she looks flawless in Galliano red dress. Her hair is elegant, and her makeup is glowing, yet soft with a muted natural lip and a smoky eye. She’s The Beauty Bug’s pick for best dressed.

6:29PM: Amy Ryan chats with Ryan, dressed in a Calvin Klein toga dress. BORING.

6:36PM: Kimora comments on Heidi Klum’s hot pink handbag clashing with her red dress. Heidi, The Beauty Bug forgives you.

6:45PM: Ryan comments that George Clooney’s hair is ridiculously perfect,and The Beauty Bug has to agree. George, whose hair looks like it was combed with a small rake, was the most well groomed man on the carpet.

6:56PM: Anne Hathaway arrives in her red Marchesa dress that’s detailed with roses, and Ryan asks her about her new Lancome fragrance. While she said she couldn’t divulge any information about it, Ryan says that if he had a Lancome fragrance it would be named “Insecurity”. Really Ryan, really? It wouldn’t be “Overexposed?”

7:10PM: Amy Adams arrives wearing a hunter green Proenza dress. Eh. Once again, The Beauty Bug confuses her with Isa Fisher.

7:17PM: Cameron Diaz’s pale pink Dior dress seems to be a bit too tight on her. Her hair looks messy and a unkempt. There’s a difference between a loosely, yet elegantly tussled up-do, and a unruly bed head.

7:41PM: Tilda Swinton arrives wearing a garbage bag. Lovely. She’s easily the worst dressed. Fun fact about Tilda – she’s in polyamorous relationship. While she lives with her boyfriend and the father of her twins, she maintains another relationship with the blessing of her live-in significant other.

8:38PM: During Jon Stewart’s monologue the camera pans to screen writer Diablo Cody, and it appears as though she has Fafi tattoo on her right upper arm. Even The Beauty Bug Boyfriend noticed!

And finally, what it all boils down to…

THE DRESSES: The dresses matched the carpet this year; red was the color of the evening. Katherine Heigl, Heidi Klum, Mylie Curus, Helen Mirren, and Anne Hathaway were all ladies in red this evening. Un-red ladies walked the carpet in black and pale neutral tones; most of whom played it safe and simple.

THE MAKEUP: The makeup was fresh and natural. Most bore rosy cheeks and matte nude lips; keeping the makeup very simple. Anne Hathaway was the exception to the rule; to match her dress Anne wore a bold red lipstick that Ryan Seacrest called the “reddest lipstick (he’s) ever seen.”

THE HAIR: The hair was casual. Up-dos were the style of choice. Some wore the casual style better than others. Jennifer Garner and Cate Blanchett’s locks were stylized, yet tousled. Cameron Diaz and Calista Flockhart’s hair was disheveled and distracting. Then there was Katherin Heigl who time traveled back to the 80′s to get her hair done. She must have left her leg-warmers at home.

BEST DRESSED: Heidi Klum

WORST DRESSED: Ellen Page/Tilda Swinton/Calista Flockhart

A Perezhilton reader commented by saying, ““Might as well face it we’re addicted to love” gone bad.” Not a bad assessment.

7:21PM: Right before cutting to commercial Debbie M. announces, “Brad and Angela just got here!” The Beauty Bug never thought She’s day this, but where’s Ryan Seacrest when you need him? At least he’s prepared.

7:27PM: The camera pans to Diane Lane’s rather manly haircut, and The Beauty Bug cringes. And cringes. It seems as though her and her husband, Josh Brolin, have the same ‘do. Gross.

7:33PM: Woody Harrelson appears high as he chats with Juliana.

8:12PM: Barely 12 minutes into the show, and The Sorpranos have already won 2 awards. Is anyone else sick of them?

8:20PM: The Beauty Bug gasps as William Petersen makes him way on to the stage. He looks dashing in all black.

8:23PM: Vanessa Williams seems disappointed as she reads the winner for Best Ensemble Cast, Drama. The Sorpranos win their third, and hopefully last, award of the night.

8:27PM: Marion Cotillard takes to the stage, and The Beauty Bug names her Best Dressed of the evening thus far. Her makeup is fresh and glowing, and the hint of shimmer on her eyes is just enough to draw attention without being overbearing. Worst Dressed is Jane Krakowski – she’s in a category all her own. Worst hair goes to Amanda Bynes by a long shot.
