Rachel in a Bottle – Rachel’s claims her favorite movie is DANGEROUS LIAISONS (although her Friends say it’s WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S) and apparently her favorite haircare line resides here in Boston  -  Living Proof.  The  smarty-pants wizards over at MIT have been developing these scientific-based products since 2008 and now Anniston will join the team as a spokesperson and product creator, according to the Wall Street Journal.  The meeting included “a demonstration in which two executives used an upholstery steamer on a model’s head to simulate humidity.”

Eyebrow Envy – As if monthly waxing/threading maintenance fees weren’t enough, some women are now forking over as much as $8,000 for a pair of perfect Kardashian-esque brows. The procedure includes some 400 follicles being transferred from the head to the brow area. One transplant  recipient  said she waited 6 months to finally trim hers, at which point they began looking grandpa-esque. Are you there Andy Rooney? It’s me, your bushy eyebrow twin.

Serge Lutens' Compliment Beige

International Intrigue – New Beauty shares some  of their must-have products from across the pond.

A Lotta Lip – The Beauty Bug agrees – the perfect nude lipstick is hard to find  - but would you spend $75 to put an end to that wild goose chase? Serge Lutens hopes so. The the iconic make-up artist, photographer, fashion and jewelry designer, perfume creator and film-maker is best known for his collaboration with Shiseido, and possibly creating the most expensive lipstick in the world. Add the finishing powder for another $160!

Boots No7 Advanced Renewal Anti-Ageing Glycolic Peel Kit

Posted: March 1st, 2012, by The Beauty Bug

Put a small mixing dish and a fan brush in front of this Beauty Bug any day and She’s ready to do some face painting. Tonight Her paint of choice was Boots’ No 7 Advanced Renewal Anti-Ageing Glycolic Peel Kit  -  She was attempting to cleanse and peel away a long, stressful work day filled with corporate shenanigans . She applied the peel as directed – 4 pumps of product  swept across Her face using the fan brush left on for no more than 5 minutes. Immediately following that The Beauty Bug used the Neutralizing Pads (a soothing blend of Icelandic moss, licorice extract and pro-vitamin B5) and then rinsed with cool water.  The peel, which contains 7% glycolic acid, is mild yet effective, and suitable for any skin type.  The Beauty Bug only experienced mild tingling, and will definitely leave the peel on a few more minutes next time.

The intense instructions read like one is about to perform self-surgery, advising  to “place the leaflet where you can see it while carrying out the treatment”,  “make sure to tie your hair back” and “over the next week your skin will need extra care.” Call Her a risk-taker, but The Beauty Bug was confident enough in Her peeling skills to apply the peel in the bathroom while leaving the instructions in another room. She may of even applied 4.5 pumps of the peel – She lives on the edge.

The results were impressive. The Beauty Bug’s skin felt renewed and was visibly smoother and softer to the touch. It was more even-toned,  and felt fresher and new from the exfoliating alpha hydroxy acids. and Overall, the system was very easy to use and the benefits will only get better with continued use!

Boots No7 Advanced Renewal Anti-Aging Glycolic Peel is available at ShopBootsUSA.com for $24.99.

Tarte Spring 2012 Collection

Posted: February 28th, 2012, by The Beauty Bug

Every beauty buff knows that in the world of makeup, fall collections reign supreme. Following in order of importance (and some could argue are tied  for the #2 slot) are the Holiday and Spring collections. That being said, The Beauty Bug never really got excited about spring collections – undoubtedly there’s always that unwearable pastel green or the pink that resembled the Frosted Peppermint Pink lipstick that She bought all throughout 6th and 7th grade.  Perfect if you’re painting Easter eggs, but the yolk stops there. But Tarte is changing all of that.  Their new spring collection brings vibrant colors, strong pigments and versatile, wearable products. Included in the collection are the Maracuja Divine Shine Lip Glosses ($21), bright, shiny thick glosses with buildable color and staying power, Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush ($25), 4 new shades of the award winning, long-wearing blushes  infused with natural clay that produce that perfect lit-from-within glow and Maracuja Blush and Glow ($32), a cheek tint and luminizer that lay beautifully over foundation (not cakey or heavy). The Beauty Bug’s picks include the Glisten and Natural Beauty Glosses, Buff and Glisten 12-Hour Blushes, and Moonlight and Candlelight Blush and Glows. Get your healthy dose of Maracuja Oil (oil from passion fruit seeds rich in Vitamin C and essential fatty acids) now at Sephora stores and online.

Peter Lamas Citrus-C Facial Cleanser

Posted: February 22nd, 2012, by The Beauty Bug

True story  - this Peter Lamas Citrus-C Facial Cleanser smells like the most delicious gulp of Fanta orange soda. Just a whiff triggers The Beauty Bug’s mouth to water and invokes cravings of the worst kind. The cleanser is smooth, all-natural, works up into a rich, sudsy lather and is the next best thing to fountain orange soda! Ingredients include Vitamin C and Beta Carotene (detoxifies and protects), Hyaluronic Acid (locks in moisture), Chamomile and Wheat Protein (soothes and strengthens), coconut and Alba Bark. It’s mild, refreshing  and removes every last bit of makeup  - even that stubborn liquid eyeliner. The Beauty Bug uses a pea-sized amount for Her whole face and skin is left soft,  deeply cleansed and moisturized. Since She works from home, The Beauty Bug occasionally likes to use this mid-day (in addition to the evening),  to enliven and awaken Her senses. She thinks of it as Her 3PM coffee run.

The Peter Lamas Citrus-C Facial Cleanser is available for $19 at PeterLamas.com

Friday Night Lights

Posted: February 18th, 2012, by The Beauty Bug

The above photo pretty much sums up Friday nights in The Beauty Bug household. The Beauty Bug’s candle of choice this week  - June Jacobs Citrus Bergamot.  After a week of nonstop conference calls, meetings, and powerpoint decks filled with corporate nonsense, it’s just what the relaxation fairy ordered. The fresh, light scent is incredibly calming and tranquil, and can even somehow help to dull the snores of a very tired bulldog (Miss Edith Rose).  Notes include citrus, shea blossom, pure vanilla, clover honey and sandalwood. As soon as it’s lit, it fills the house with warmth and winding-down vibes. The scent is so soothingly intoxicating, that if The Beauty Bug didn’t know better, She’d swear it had some sort of transitive power and was releasing pacifying currents into the air to take you away to a dreamy, dozy state. Pair it with a cup of your favorite, and forget about it – you’re out within 25 minutes.

(Beauty)Bug Bites

  • Just months after her divorce, Katy Perry is lashing out…in Ulta. This month she’ll release her own line of fake eye lashes on Ulta.com. Surely, they’ll be trimmed with cupcakes and lollipops.

  • The best part of about this story? The Beauty Bug Husband sent Her an email with the link and the subject read: “crazy woman loses arm“, and that pretty much sums it up. A New Orleans meshuggah injected “bath salts” into her arm at a party, which lead to an uncontrollable infection, which ultimately lead to the amputation of her arm. Clearly she didn’t watch the Chris Hansen Dateline investigation.

  • Open wide, ladies and get ready to suck! Japanese housewife Chikako Hirama did. She was concerned about anti-aging and designed this Pupeko mouthpiece to combat the tell-tales signs. The tool inserts into mouths, creating an O-shaped expression that enables the user to suck in and puff out their cheeks. Cheek and jaw muscles tighten and the face looks fresher.  It’s yours for only $40. A bargain.

  • While most of the normal world received lipgloss and socks in their Christmas stocking, 7 year-old Poppy, the daughter of Sarah Burge, the woman known as the human barbie, received a liposuction voucher worth about $11,000. The Christmas before Poppy received a voucher for breast augmentation, which she can redeem at age 18, if she chooses to. Suddenly, Toddlers and tiaras seems so….normal.

Clinique Almost Lipstick

Posted: February 7th, 2012, by The Beauty Bug

There’s really nothing almost about this product. It was definitely one of the best new products to hit beauty counters last month and its origins are  deeply rooted in cosmetic history. The Almost Lipstick craze started in 1989 with the cult-classic Black Honey (two words that will get any beauty junkie visibly excited). Fast forward to the 90′s and the slick stick might as well have had its own place of worship. Now, the line has expanded with 7 new pout-perfect colors.  Somewhere in between a gloss and a lipstick, the ultra-sheer lightweight formulas are like a soft peck to the lips.  Shades range from natural nudes to wearable violets, pinks and red.  New additions to the line include Shy Honey ( light pink), Tender Honey (neutral), Spicy Honey (red), Luscious Honey (magenta), Chic Honey (deep plum), Lovely Honey (barely there pink) and Flirty Honey (pink).  So, go ahead and wear red.  Or pink. It’s almost easy.

The winner of the L’Oreal Twitter Chat is Tina. Tina – check your email for instructions on how to claim your prize. Tina’s question and answer was as follows:

Q: I’m 46 years old and recently I’ve noticed a few dark brown splotches on the top of my chest and my upper forehead. What might this be?

Dr. Gersner said: “This is probably a combo of melasma & solar lentigo. Most likely caused by sun damage just appearing now. YouthCode Dark Spot Correcting Illuminating Collection is perfect treatment for dark spots from sun damage.”
